New York City, a set on Flickr.

I visited New York City for the first time this Memorial Day weekend. Here are some of the photos I took! This was also the first time I shot in the RAW format on my T2i. The amount of control I get is awesome!

NYC is an amazing city. I really reminded me of my time in Europe. So many things accessible through public transportation, the amount of people walking, and the endless things to do! The food was delicious, with restaurants from all over the world in the melting pot of America. I met all kinds of people, tourists and local alike. It made me realize that I really should take advantage of living in the US and see everything here. You don’t have to look far sometimes.

you should know…

While playing pool during lunch today (our office has a pool table by the cafe), a co-worker introduced me to Songza. It’s an app that plays music, like Pandora or Spotify, but all of its ads are visual which means that you don’t hear about how much you could be saving on car insurance between a couple of songs. But what I really like about it is that it will recommend playlists for the specific day, time, or mood that you’re in. Download the app or go to the website and try it for yourself!

chicken normandy

I’ve been wanting to make this for a long time: http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chicken_normandy/

Over the past few weeks, I had been slowly buying the necessary ingredients such as the brandy, whole chicken legs, and apple cider. The brandy had to be acquired at a specialty liquor store, and I had to research to make sure I was buying a good one. I ended up buying this one:

It was $13 for a 750 mL bottle if I remember correctly.

I was afraid this cooking adventure would turn out like this:

Thankfully, it turned out incredibly delicious. It’s my new favorite recipe, dethroning the maple glazed salmon. The Fuji apples provided the right amount of sweetness while the brandy, cider and thyme gave the chicken a wonderful flavor. I will definitely make this again. I also accidentally put in 4x as much brandy (recipe called for 1/2 cup brandy and 2 cups cider, I remembered 2 cups brandy for some reason) but it still tasted great.
